My dad called me early this morning. When I answered the phone he says "good morning." I am still asleep so I say "it is?". Then our conversation goes something like this:
Dad: We don't have a fence any more.
Me: Huh? What do you mean you don't have a fence anymore?
Dad: The one around the front yard is down.
Me: Down? What happened?
Dad: A car went through it.
Me: WHAT? (he has my attention now, the sleep be jerked out of me )
Dad: Around 5:30 this morning a car came crashing through the fence.
This is what happened:
A car coming down the street made a left turn (no street there) jumped the curb, knocked down the fence at the side of the yard kept going, sideswiped a tree in the front yard, kept going, knocked down the fence on the other side of the yard went through the driveway and stopped when it hit the fence between my parents house and their neighbors yard. Oh, the fence didn't stop the car. The car parked on the other side of the fence is what finally stopped it.
Then, (according to a neighbor that says he saw this) a woman got out of the car and ran up the street. By this time my parents are awake and by the time they figure out what has happened the woman is back with 2 men. One of the men says he was driving.
Police show up. The man says he was driving. And that is where his made up story starts to fall apart. First he said he was having trouble with the starter. (that would mean you couldn't start the car, not wreck it) Then he says he swerved to miss a kid standing on the side walk waiting for a school bus. (first there are no school buses that early, and he would have had to hit the kid on the side walk because he came across the sidewalk). The policeman knew he was lying and told the man he knew it. But the guy stuck to his story.
My parents neighbor said that a woman was driving the car. The men told him that he didn't know what he was talking about and to keep his blankety-blankety mouth shut. So when the cops showed up the neighbor told them that he had been threatened.
Oh, there were no skid marks. In fact where the car first came into the yard there are no tire prints. Should have been because of all the rain we had overnight. That woman must have been flying and went airborne.
Another twist to the story. The woman driving, she lives about 4 houses up from my parents. (No, they didn't know each other.)
The police didn't give the man a ticket because they were convinced he wasn't driving. I wonder if that will effect my parents getting their fence fixed by this person.

actually, the reason the officers didn't cite anybody is because they didn't SEE a crime being committed .. what it would have taken was for a witness to perform a citizens arrest and then the officers could have issued a citation
what they will do is to issue a warrant to appear
your parents should get their fence repaired, get a copy of the police report and ask to be informed of the disposition of the case
if they don't have homeowners insurance, will probably have to sue to get the fence repair costs reimbursed .. if there is a judgement in the traffic court it could be used as evidence for your parents
unless all that court TV i've been watching was wrong :)

Crazy! I hope your parent's neighbor will be a witness so that woman has to pay for the damages. And thanks for the first graphic. Until I saw that, I hadn't realized it was Friday! Woo hoo! -B
File a claim on the insurance on the car. i hope pictures were taken
Kathy~Thank heavens the car did not go through the house! I sure hope this lady has to be responceable for the damage! What a way to wake up huh? ~Wendy~
Hi there,
Wild story. That is too bad but I am happy your parents are okay.
Take care,
Donna
man, how do ppl like that get liscense?
Man what was they thinking?????? How cna people like that keep thier license. Thats awful could have crashed in to someone or people in ahouse. Thats so awful Lori
WHAT?????? I'm sorry, but SOMEONE has to be ticketed. I mean.. if they can't ticket the woman, when it was clearly her fault [according to the neighbor] then at LEAST let the man take the fall for it and have his insurance fix the fence. I'd be fuming! She lucky she didn't kill someone. Was she drunk?? Who goes over a curb, through a fence, a tree, and another fence without stopping? Grrrr... Your poor folks! :(
Sometimes you wonder how some folks got their drivers license. :-) What a mess!
So nobody was ticketed???? That woman doesn't deserve a license. And can't that man be thrown into jail for lying? Sheesh. -Krissy

I am truly surprised that no one received a ticket..that is INSANE!..I am glad no one was hurt...but then how do you prove to the insurance company who is responsible if no ticket was given out...this news would have wiped the sleep from me too! Let us know what happens.
