I hope that everyone is doing ok and is surviving this latest hurricane. We have been getting "pre-hurricane" rain earlier that I expected.
The weekend was so nice that I thought today I would take a drive up to the mountains. The leaves are changing colors so I thought it would be great. Woke up to it pouring down rain. So much for that nice day in the mountains.
Mom talked to my brother yesterday. He finally told her the real reasons why my niece (his daughter) had her son taken away from her. (See Baby Blues) I won't go into all of it here, lets just say she was not taking very good care of the little tike. She and her boyfriend were supposed to take some parenting classes this summer. I don't know about her but I know he didn't finish the course.
One reason I bring this back up is that M is due to have her second baby any day now. She doesn't think there will be any problems with social services
but I wonder. She hasn't gotten her son back so what is to keep them from taking the new baby away? I don't know how all that works as I have never known anyone that had a child taken away. (or at least no one ever told me that they had a child taken away)
Thanks to a terrifice guy in an MSN group I had a picture of my little Sadie turned into a halloween siggy. What do you think?

Sorry to hear your day was ruined by the rain. :(
As to the social services thing, I have a brother [who I don't speak with much] who had his 2 children taken away from him. We kept my niece for two years, then she and her baby brother were both adopted into a family that allows us to be in their lives. I've had a difficult time forgiving my brother for this. It's such a long and disturbing story, one I really don't like talking about.
But he and his wife went on to have two other children that they still have in their possession. They will always have a record with the state, but unless another complaint is made against them in regards to THESE children, the state can't take the new children away. That's my understanding of it. So your neice would basically have to neglect or abuse the new baby before social services would move in.
Now, if they have an ongoing investigation with CPS, in which they're still trying to get their son back, then CPS will be involved in the new baby's life and watching very closely. But once they've given up parental rights to their son, CPS pretty much drops out of their life. Anyway... I hope that gives you some information. Laws could be different for each state too.
