2nd entry today

Ok everyone, I want you to do something for me.  Between now and Christmas keep track of how many catalogs you get in the mail.  Today I got 4.  Three of which I have never ordered from before.

I was going to try to keep track last year but it got so ridiculous I lost count.  This year I am going to TRY to keep track of how many and from who.  Lets see who gets the most and what is the most ridiculous catalog we get.

I have been sitting listening to the radio while I am on line for the past week or so, and have really listened to some of the songs.  For the most part I have been listening to a top 40 station.  I know that there are some really raunchy songs out there but I am shocked by something else.  I am so totally shocked at the songs -- really popular songs -- that are just degrading to women.

There are songs were the guy says he can have any woman he wants because of who he is, another where the guy thinks the girl is cute but if she won't then he will take her friend.  Another where if the man doesn't think she can cut it then he will put her on the streets.  There is even a song -- a female singer this time -- saying that she wants to get with him whenever he is in town and it is ok that he doesn't love her.

I would have thought that the young people that listen to this most of their time would be upset.  I would have hoped that girls would protest.  But I guess I am really wrong.

The message getting out for guys is well, get it and move on.  For girls it is you had better give it up or the guy will move on.  What is the world coming to?

Hiya! this is my first visit to your journal. Thanks for the comment in mine and the great idea about the 5 minutes 5 items thing :) I'm gonna try it out.

I dont listen to the radio but I would imagine lots of songs are pretty degrading to women...we are often seen as plaything to use and discard at will I guess...I just wont stand for it!

I'll be back again soon for another visit!

lots of love, Amy

I will keep track of how many I get from now until Christmas. I don't like today's music at all. I listen to either an 80's station or an oldies station at all times.

I might just be the winner in the catalog contest.  Not only do I get catalogs for myself, but I get them for my business, too.  On top of that, I just moved to a house that was formerly occupied by a very wealthy old lady who loved to shop.  I think my box is going to overfloweth!

Top 40 hits a raw nerve with me.  I've given up on trying to make sense of the senseless.  Studio-creations are at the mercy of the mighty record label.  It's all about the money.  I've been listening to Acoustic Rock on AOL.  I just love when songwriters strip down to the roots. :)

A lot of contemporary music is misogynistic, but then, music for young people has ALWAYS pushed boundaries.  Famous lyrics like "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" come to mind.  It's just that things are just more blatant now.  I have to admit, a lot ofhip-hop can turn me off big-time, that genre is the worst at what you're describing.

Selling mailing lists is big business, if you order from one catalog, your name will be sold!  I don't like catalog shopping, so I get ZERO catalogs.  --Albert

Just got a magazine in the mail today called "The Swiss Colony".  It had a mouse dressed as Santa!  Now why would I get a catalog from them?  I don't order from them?  It is starting early this year... -Krissy
