Cooking? Me? Kidding right? No?

The picture isn't mine.  I did a search and found it.  Link to the source will be given at end of entry.

Even though I can't really cook, and I really don't care much for vegetables every now and then I get a yearning (a yearning?) for some "real" food.  Today was one of those days.  I love fried squash but it is just way too much work.  So I turned to the next thing -- squash casserole.  Well my version of squash casserole.  I am sure it is supposed to be made with all kinds of stuff but since I am cooking impaired I have it with next to nothing added.

If you like this and want to try it then just try it.  LOL  Don't ask me for the recipe.  I don't have one.  I can't give you any measurements.  You just have to "eyeball" the food you have compared to the dish you will be baking it in.  I have a favorite small glass baking dish that I use.  I don't know what size it is.  I do know that 1 can of squash usually fills it up so if you are trying to feed 2 or more you will need to up how many cans of squash you use.

"my recipe"

1 can cooked squash  --- drain and "mash"
put a layer of squash in the dish
next is a layer of cheese  -- i just use plain old American sliced cheese
now is a layer of crushed up crackers
layer in the rest of the squash
layer of cheese
one more layer of crushed up crackers
sprinkle some melted butter (margarine) over top.

Place in warm oven (I use around 425 but could go lower or higher) for ???  I like 30 minutes.  It's basically already cooked so you just want to melt the cheese and get good and hot.  And I like to brown the crackers on top just a little.

option: mix some crushed up Cheez - It crackers in with your regular crackers.  mixes up the flavor just a little.  easy huh?  just one more ingredient and it wouldn't be easy, got it down to just exactly what you need.  a vegatable, crackers, and cheese.  what else could you possibly want?  LOL

Oh, about the picture above.  I did a search, I was going to put a picture of a squash, sliced cheese, and crackers on this entry.  But when I found the above picture I am like why do I want ordinary pictures?  The squash hunter can be found here:  Squash Hunting (if you hit the back to home page link you will see what this guy is really like.  i wouldn't think he would be funny).  While looking for sliced cheese I came across a girl in a bathtub (with bathing suit on) with sliced cheese on side of tub: goose girl: January 2006  And I still looked for crackers and found Uterine Fury Records -Slobot About Town IX: Slobot hops down the Cottonwood Trail  yeah, if you look you will see a jar of crackers.....

So weird what I found pictures of when I went looking for some food........

Oh well, that's how my life goes.........

Canned squash is such a great thing. A friend cooks all from scratch, and her squash tastes just like canned! Margo

Would you believe I've never eaten squash in my life? I don't know why. My mother never cooked it, so I never did. My husband didn't like it and that was another reason.

Just me,
squash deprived

If you had told me 13 years ago that someday I would post a picture of myself eating sliced cheese and drinking chocolate milk while sitting in a bubble bath, I would have thought, "Wow! What a cool place the future will be!"

In the town I grew up near -- almost all the men loked the guy in this picture.  Except with dirtier clothes, bigger rifles, and a dead deer on the floor instead of squash.

What's not to love.  All the ingredients sound good and go together.  I know what you mean about wanting some "real" food.  If I eat out of boxes for too long I get like that.

Hugs my friend,
