Alerts vs Feeds

Do any of you use the "feeds" instead of the AOL alerts?

I am experimenting with it.  I have tried the AOL feed before but everytime I cleared my cache I lost all the feeds that I subscribed to.  So now I am playing around with the google feed and the yahoo feed.  Which do I like best?  Don't know.  Is another one better?

I get a couple of feeds for some Blogger blogs but I can't remember which feed and I don't think we have it as an option yet.  I like it because I get an email once a day that tells every blog that updated the day before.  Sure it's a day late but all the blogs are in one email.  I like that.

I have cut back on my alerts and I still think I would like to get rid of them.  Or at least to try something else and if I hate it I can always come back to AOL alerts.

Anyone with ideas or suggestions?

I know NOTHING about feeds or how to do them...would like to learn as I would like that I think. Also now that I have a blog on blogspot or whatever it's called, I'd like to find out about getting a feed there. But I'm lost, I'm so tech challenged. :(

I have no idea!  Usually when I start messing with other stuff, I mess AOL up.

I'm blank on that one, I've never used the feeds ~ but then I'm always afraid I'm going to mess something else up when I do try new things as far as technical things are concerned  lol.   Teresa

I don't even know what AOL feeds are.  I use the alerts and when they are down I just make visits.

I have all the blogs I read on my Technorati thingy. If I fall behind with alerts, I jot down screennames and chase them using Technorati. Works reasonably well.

Not me. I read one to three journals daily. : )
I found I stopped living real live, when all I did is read a lot of journals every day. It was getting to be work. Now, I go back to journals I used to read a lot once in a while and catch up.

I am strictly an alerts kind of a girl..I have all of the Journals that i have on alerts saved so if I think that I haven't been getting any alerts i do a quick check that way...I know i have been  absolutely no help have I? LOL

I'm sort of a combo girl.  I use both...
I'm more comfy with alerts but have sort of figured out feeds enough to use them, but not enough to explain!   Does that help YOU?   (sorry)

I don't do alerts at all.  I just check in on my good buddies once a day (usually late at night).  Yours is one I drop in on every single day.  Just so you know, Kath.

I read this and all the comments with interest because I have been considering feeds, too.  I have not tried them yet, but with all the alerts I recieve daily, it is getting very cumbersome to deal with.  Let me know what you think after you've tried them for a bit.  I might switch, too.

The only alerts I use are for comments and private journals.  I used to use Bloglines but they have some problems.  Now I use the Google Reader and it wins hands down.  I keep track of all my feeds and all the AOL journals in one place.  I couldn't manage with email alerts I would just get buried.

So my vote is for Google Reader!!!!!

ps I hate the AOL feed thing.  It's pain in the butt

Well, now I've read all the comments here and think I need to try something other than AOL alerts.   My mailbox is always full up!  And I am always trying to empty it.  I know there has to be a better way. ...

I hear ya. I'm not too pleased with any of the feeds so far. I find they're unreliable, and too often redundant, in that I get all the updates over and over every time the reader fetches them. AOL alerts are ok, just too many! I like the preview feature the feeds provide, but, I just don't like the results.
