My mom is 74 years old. She has osteoporosis (thinning of the bones). As you know she feel earlier this week and wouldn't go to the doctor. Well she started hurting really bad and I had to take her to the ER this morning.
They did an x-ray but couldn't tell for sure if it is a fracture, so they did a CT scan. They see something but still not sure what it is. They are going to keep her overnight and do an MRI tomorrow sometime. If it is a fracture of her pelvic bone then she will have to have surgery. And they will have to put in bolts or whatever.
I am deeply worried about her. Women her age with fractures (or breaks) are in for a long recovery and maybe even death.
Won't know for sure what is wrong until the MRI tomorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. It hurts to much to know that our parents are suffering. I hope everything turns out OK for her.

Cathy,
Osteoporosis is not uncommon in ladies that age. Breakages are not uncommon either, but I appreciate you're concerned. However, with modern-day orthopaedic procedures and subsequent physical therapy, you'd be amazed how fast people are back on their legs. If she has osteoporosis, she is likely to be started on medication to counteract the worst of its effects.
Anyways, await the outcome of the MRI-scan and take it on from there.
Kathy,
I'm sorry about your mother and my thoughts are with you all.

hi Kathy...
I hope your mum will be ok, I have Osteoporosis and I have had quite a lot of falls and I think i have only got away with it without breaking bones, because of being overweight...which is'nt good for Osteoporosis either...my thoughts are with your mum and yourself of course...best wishes and take care!

Don't think dying. Nowadays, that doesn't happen. They fix bones. Stay positive and put her in God's hands.
I've added your Mom to our prayer list. I've been through this with family members. It isn't the fracture repair that is bad but, bed sores for no moving duringrecovery and the "big one", pnemonia. Good Luck to your Mom and Good Luck to you. My Regards, Bill.
Oh I so understand my granny is still recovering from hier hip breaking four weeks ago Ihope your mom is okay
Thanks for posting all the j'land anniversary activity notices. My prayers are with your mom for a complete CLEAN bill of health. Please keep us posted!! She's really still pretty young, tell her to enjoy life more carefully!!

A hip fracture (actually it's the femur, the long leg bone) usually requires surgery. Hopefully your mom has a pelvic fracture (the pelvic bone is cracked) which responds well to rest. My best wishes are with you!
My mom is the same age and she has a multitude of health problems... one being osteoporosis.... her hips are in bad shape and I just hold my breath hoping she doesn't fall!!!! Hope everything is ok with your mom!!! http://journals.aol.com/shayshaydc/Golfaholic

I'm so sorry about your mom's fall. It's a good thing she did finally have to go to the doctor. I hope the surgery goes well. I think the key thing is to get her up and moving around as soon as possible in cases like these. I'm sure she'll be fine.
