I have been trying to back up all my photos and graphics on a cd. I have done this before with no problem whatsoever. But not today. Nope not today.
First I get a message that the cd is too full. Ok, I erase the cd. Then when I try to save I get a message that there isn't enough room on the cd for all my photos and graphics. Well I find this hard to believe. But I guess it could be possible. So then I decide to start putting things on the cd one folder at a time.
Things were going good and then I got some weird message saying there was something wrong with the file and it couldn't write it to the cd. I skip over that folder go on to something else and come back to it later and it will copy just fine. I am not even half way through my graphics and I get that "cd is full" message again. I so find that hard to believe. So I have pulled out another cd and am slowly adding one folder at a time to the cd. At this rate I will be doing it forever and a day. LOL
I thought the cd's were supposed to hold a massive amount of data and graphics. The cd's I am using ae supposed to hold 700MB. Either that isn't as much as I thought it would be, my cd's are screwed up and I need new ones, or -- the horror of horrors -- I have THAT massive amount of graphics? Boy if I do I guess I should get some of them off the hard drive. What do you guys think? How many cd's full of graphics is too many? How many should I keep on the hard drive?

Rainy Monday
The weekend was so nice that I thought today I would take a drive up to the mountains. The leaves are changing colors so I thought it would be great. Woke up to it pouring down rain. So much for that nice day in the mountains.
Mom talked to my brother yesterday. He finally told her the real reasons why my niece (his daughter) had her son taken away from her. (See Baby Blues) I won't go into all of it here, lets just say she was not taking very good care of the little tike. She and her boyfriend were supposed to take some parenting classes this summer. I don't know about her but I know he didn't finish the course.
One reason I bring this back up is that M is due to have her second baby any day now. She doesn't think there will be any problems with social services
but I wonder. She hasn't gotten her son back so what is to keep them from taking the new baby away? I don't know how all that works as I have never known anyone that had a child taken away. (or at least no one ever told me that they had a child taken away)
Thanks to a terrifice guy in an MSN group I had a picture of my little Sadie turned into a halloween siggy. What do you think?
A new email virus. Please Read.
If you receive an email entitled "Bedtimes" delete it IMMEDIATELY. Do not open it. Apparently this one is pretty nasty.
It will not only erase everything on your hard drive, but it will also delete anything on disks within 20 feet of your computer.
It demagnetizes the strips on ALL of your credit cards.
It reprograms your ATM access code, screws up the tracking on your VCR, and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you attempt to play.
It will program your phone auto dial to call only mobile/cel numbers. This virus will mix antifreeze into your fish tank.
IT WILL CAUSE YOUR TOILET TO FLUSH WHILE YOU ARE SHOWERING.
It will drink ALL your beer. FOR GOD'S SAKE, ARE YOU LISTENING??
It will leave dirty underwear on the coffee table when you are expecting company.
It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine.
If the "Bedtimes" message opened in a Windows 95/98/XP environment,
it will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub.
It will not only remove the forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, it will also refill your skim milk with whole milk
WARN AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN.
And if you don't send this to 5000 people in 20 seconds, you'll fart so hard that your right leg will spasm and shoot straight out in front of you, sending sparks that will ignite the person nearest you.
Send this warning to everyone!!! THERE!'S A LOT OF SADNESS IN THE WORLD! Right now, as you read this, 1 .7 Million people are having SEX!!! And look at you - you're on the computer!!!!
***ok well all know this one is a joke. if you ever get anything in an email asking you to pass it on you can go to www.snopes.com to check to see if the information is true or just something that is going around.

2nd entry today
Ok everyone, I want you to do something for me. Between now and Christmas keep track of how many catalogs you get in the mail. Today I got 4. Three of which I have never ordered from before.
I was going to try to keep track last year but it got so ridiculous I lost count. This year I am going to TRY to keep track of how many and from who. Lets see who gets the most and what is the most ridiculous catalog we get.
I have been sitting listening to the radio while I am on line for the past week or so, and have really listened to some of the songs. For the most part I have been listening to a top 40 station. I know that there are some really raunchy songs out there but I am shocked by something else. I am so totally shocked at the songs -- really popular songs -- that are just degrading to women.
There are songs were the guy says he can have any woman he wants because of who he is, another where the guy thinks the girl is cute but if she won't then he will take her friend. Another where if the man doesn't think she can cut it then he will put her on the streets. There is even a song -- a female singer this time -- saying that she wants to get with him whenever he is in town and it is ok that he doesn't love her.
I would have thought that the young people that listen to this most of their time would be upset. I would have hoped that girls would protest. But I guess I am really wrong.
The message getting out for guys is well, get it and move on. For girls it is you had better give it up or the guy will move on. What is the world coming to?
I didn't know.
I thought about this for a few days and finally decided to share with everyone. I didn't want to because I didn't want everyone to know just how computer illiterate I am. But now I am thinking maybe there a few more like me out there somewhere, so maybe I should share.
If you knew this already you don't have to say "I could have told you so". If you didn't know let me know so I don't feel so dumb.
I have a ton of graphics saved. They for the most part save just fine. But when I go to look at some of them my folder has these things in their places:
I finally asked someone in an MSN group and they wanted to know how I was saving things. Huh? I mean you right click hit save and be done with it. Right? Well I guess not. For the most part the graphics I saved that showed these things were saved as .art. And they should not have been. So, to find out what I have saved and to re-save it correctly, I have had to do a lot of work. For the first one up there I get no preview so I have had to copy/paste into a email then resave and make sure to change the .art to .bmp. The second one up there will open into a different window so I open it and resave. The third one wants to know what program to use to open it. Great. But I found for almost all I select can pick "select a program from a list" and then pick "internet explorer" and it will open.
After re-saveing and then deleted the old file.....and now I have saved some in the wrong folders and am hunting them down like a crazy person. Go ahead laugh. But even if you have been saving yours right I bet your folders aren't in perfect shape and you still have to hunt for something from time to time, right? Please say right.

Update
To catch you up to date, the insurance of the man that wasn't driving the car that went thru my parents fence -- yep, they are going to pay. They have to get an estimate of the cost but the insurance company assured them a check would be coming.
That insurance company is also paying for the next door neighbor's car that got hit. And they are coming out way ahead. The car wouldn't run before it got hit. In fact they were hoping to sell it for $300 (yeah, for a car that had no transmission in it). The insurance guy came out gave them a check for $1,100 and another $50 for a tow truck to get it off the concrete thingy that it was knocked over. I may be crazy, but why would the insurance pay more for the car than the car is worth?
So, even though this was an unfortunate event -- my parents are getting the front part of their property fence replaced, and the neighbor is getting more than their car was worth. The only bad thing is......hmmm.....oh, the bad thing is the mess the car that caused the damage is in and that someone who wasn't to blame insurance is going up. Hey, but that is totally his fault. He should not have taken the blame. Crazy.
PS I don't know about you guys, but I have a sort of image in my head about each one of you. The woman in the graphic above is sort of what I picture SloMo to be like. Slo--that is a compliment.

Has anyone noticed?
Short entry.
I have been surfing around J-land and noticed something different. Something strange, but wonderful. Anyone else notice?
I have seen some comments being left that have actual working links in them. Yep, saw a couple where the commenter left a link to their journal -- and it showed up in blue so I clicked on it and wham, I am at their journal.
I love this feature though. Am I the last one to know?
When did this happen? Is it everywhere? What is going on? We got a new toy and no one told me?

Entries from other Journals
This is one of thoe pimping other journal entries. Well, I am not pimping the whole journal just some entries that I liked. Because I am behind in my journal reading you may have already seen some of these. And then again maybe you are behind like I am! LOL
So sit back and start clicking. You don't have to do the right click thing, these should all open in their own little window. (If I do it right, cross your fingers!!)
Read about a strange flood survivor here.
Shelli tells us some things we should never do here.
The very first entry of a new journal by an old journaler. (well now I am not saying she is old, its just that she has another journal so she isn't really new to journaling. Ok?)
Read all about a day at the humane society here.
With this entry Ayn starts her virtual trip to China. Be sure to read the entries after this one to see how the trip goes.
SloMo tells us of two fellow journalers that just lost their twin babies in a miscarriage. Please go read her entry then click on the links to leave some love and support to this couple.

What happened to the fence?
Dad: We don't have a fence any more.
Me: Huh? What do you mean you don't have a fence anymore?
Dad: The one around the front yard is down.
Me: Down? What happened?
Dad: A car went through it.
Me: WHAT? (he has my attention now, the sleep be jerked out of me )
Dad: Around 5:30 this morning a car came crashing through the fence.
This is what happened:
A car coming down the street made a left turn (no street there) jumped the curb, knocked down the fence at the side of the yard kept going, sideswiped a tree in the front yard, kept going, knocked down the fence on the other side of the yard went through the driveway and stopped when it hit the fence between my parents house and their neighbors yard. Oh, the fence didn't stop the car. The car parked on the other side of the fence is what finally stopped it.
Then, (according to a neighbor that says he saw this) a woman got out of the car and ran up the street. By this time my parents are awake and by the time they figure out what has happened the woman is back with 2 men. One of the men says he was driving.
Police show up. The man says he was driving. And that is where his made up story starts to fall apart. First he said he was having trouble with the starter. (that would mean you couldn't start the car, not wreck it) Then he says he swerved to miss a kid standing on the side walk waiting for a school bus. (first there are no school buses that early, and he would have had to hit the kid on the side walk because he came across the sidewalk). The policeman knew he was lying and told the man he knew it. But the guy stuck to his story.
My parents neighbor said that a woman was driving the car. The men told him that he didn't know what he was talking about and to keep his blankety-blankety mouth shut. So when the cops showed up the neighbor told them that he had been threatened.
Oh, there were no skid marks. In fact where the car first came into the yard there are no tire prints. Should have been because of all the rain we had overnight. That woman must have been flying and went airborne.
Another twist to the story. The woman driving, she lives about 4 houses up from my parents. (No, they didn't know each other.)
The police didn't give the man a ticket because they were convinced he wasn't driving. I wonder if that will effect my parents getting their fence fixed by this person.

Tuesday, but feels like Monday
We finally got Sadie to eating! I am so happy. She wasn't eating enought for me to get her meds into her so Dr B gave her some shots. Since she wasn't eating he gave her a vitamin B shot also. He said that shot would sting a little. Just a little. Well it must have stung more than a little because Sadie came all the off the table. Dr B and I both dove for her but she was in the floor before we could do anything.
She had to go 3 days for shots but now she is eating. He also gave me (well, sold me) some high calorie dry cat food. It is made with green peas and duck. Yeah, green peas and DUCK. Two foods I wouldn't eat myself.
Yesterday when I came out of my doctor's office I found a kitten in the parking lot. She had a collar with a tag that had a phone number. I called the number but got a answering machine. Two more ladies came around by then and we were trying to decide what to do. Finally decided that I would take the cat to a vet just down the road and maybe they would keep it until they could get in touch with the owner.
They told me they would try, but if the owner wasn't reached or come to pick up the cat by the next day I would be expected to more or less become the owner as far as they were concerned. That freaked me out. I can not take another cat in right now. Luckily several hours later they called and said the owner had been reached and had picked up the cat. Whew!
I don't know about anyone else but when I am depressed my housework really suffers. Then I get to feeling better and the house is a mess and I have no idea where to start to get it back in shape. It seems hopeless. I was telling this to someone and they told me about the 5 "rule". You clean for 5 minutes at a time or did 5 things. Doesn't sound like your going to do much but it gets you started. G -- who is a hugh list maker -- says she makes a list (long list) of everything that needs to get done. Then when you do the "5" you can mark off several things at a time. When you look at your house you may not see much getting done, but if you look at the things you are able to mark off your list then you feel like you are accomplishing something.

September 11th Part 3
Three years ago today was a Tuesday. A beautiful day. My dad and I had went out for breakfast together. The little diner we were at had a TV and it was the Today show.
I noticed everyone (or so it seemed) to be watching the TV. Quite unusual as most of the time the TV was just sort of background noise. We got up and went to see what was happening.
It looked like a tall building was on fire or getting ready to fall. Then we gathered that a plane had hit one of the twin towers in NYC. The first thing that I said was that it had to be terriorist. (why that popped out of my mouth I have no idea) This man turned and looked at me, I said "well look how many planes fly over them for all these years. Surely no plane would accidently fly into one of them."
Dad paid our bill and we went back to the house. Mom was glued to the TV. She said do you know what is going on? Yea, we saw at the diner. Just then we saw the 2nd plane hit.
At that time my brother walked in. He had no idea what was going on (as he had just driven to town from his house -- about an hour away). When it hit him he started to freak. I am like what is wrong with you? His wife had been out of state and was due to take a bus to come home that day. He was worried about her traveling.
I remember there not being anything on TV for what seemed like ages except all this madness. Now I am not trying to make light of the situation, I was upset over what had happened but it still felt like it was a world away from me. The more I saw on TV the more depressed I got. So I went to a movie. The pre-view was of the Spiderman movie that was soon to come out. And it showed a helicopter (I think) crashing into the Twin Towers. (shortly after that the trailer was yanked).
I go home feeling even more depressed. The news people on the tube say not to watch so much of what is happening as it was affecting people (I for one was losing sleep and being just a real b****). So I flipped channels. There was nothing else on the TV. Not the shopping channels, not the music channels, no place. Finally one of the cartoon channels come back on.
That is when I a 40something adult started watching cartoons again. I found them to be relaxing and it took my mind off things. To this day I will watch about 30 minutes or so of cartoons before I go to bed at night.
Because I live in North Carolina the change of the New York sky line wasn't something that I could grasp. It didn't affect me. But something else did. Something that to this day I remember and will until I die.
I looked up in the sky and there were no planes. There were no streaks in the sky that planes leave behind. It was so weird. It scared me. For me, that is what most impacted me. I cry when I see the towers fall, but the memory of what I could see in my little part of the world is what hurts me the most. Now that may sound weird to most of you and you may not understand. And you may think how can something not showing up in the sky hurt more than all those people dying. I have no answer for you. I don't know. I know that 9-11 affected everyone in different ways. That is how it affected me.

Ain't we having fun?
I have had to take Sadie back to the vet again. Yea, again. I guess she is just going to have problems all her life. I hate it for her. And to be honest I hate it for me too. Today's visit was $89.00.
Sadie had been eating since we took her off the steroids. Well, she has quit eating again. She is down to 4.8 pounds. She had topped out once at 5.5.
Dr B took a urine sample but it didn't show anything. Sadie got really mad when he felt down along her spine. So did the x-ray thing again. Everything looked pretty much ok. But there was a little inflammation at the bottom of her esophagus. So we now have more meds to add. A anti-inflammatory, and just to be on the safe side a little bit of an antibotic.
So Sadie is up to 3 pills a day. One in the morning and 2 at night.
We are having so much fun at my house.
Got a letter from my health insurance people. They are refusing to pay for my last visit to my srink. I had permission from them but now they are dening that I had permission. For those of you that don't know, any mental health services are treated differently than if you are going to a medical doctor. They don't pay as much, you have to get permission first for your visits, and you have to chose from a very small list of doctors that they approve of.
We have had a lot of rain the past few days. I am tired of it now. It can stop at any time now. Please. Any time now. Are you listening up there?

Check it out
While reading some journals today I found some that I had to share. Ok, I am not exactly pimping journals. I am pimping journal entries. Big difference. LOL
If you love animal pictures (and I know you do) you have to check out the photo in this entry It's Been A While. It you don't like it, well there is something wrong with you. You don't have to read the entry if you don't want to. Just look at the photo. Ok?
In this entry Scott gives us the warning symptoms of a heart attack. Today's lesson. Go read it and learn something. For those of you that don't know, Scott is an EMT in Hawaii.
Huge hurricane out there these days. In the Soggy Days Ahead entry we get a look at the newest path the storm may take. Grab your animals and head for higher ground! The storm is a category 4.
What happens when you go to Hawaii for a EMS convention? Read the story of Mike and Scott. Scott has part one then he send you to Mike to finish up the story.
Ok, so I will pimp one journal. Fairly new so I don't know if you know it is out there. The Faces of AOL J-land. This is what the journal says it is about: This journal is about other journals. It seeks to put faces to the great journals written in AOL's Journal Community.
Surf on over there to see who's picture is up and what they have to say about themselves.
I have tried to make sure all links open a separate window so go ahead and click on the links. I ain't going anywhere.
John's weekend assignment
This picture was taken on my 3rd birthday. It is one of the few pictures of me taken when I was little. Oh, there are tons of my brother when he was little -- guess since he was the first born or something like that. Mom says they didn't have a camera by the time I came along.
I had the dress that I was wearing up until fairly recently. I washed it and it started to come apart. Well it was kinda old. LOL I had it on a doll that I had gotten when I was little. It was one of those big dolls that you could walk with.
Back to the picture. The other pictures taken that day show me with my brother and our grandmother. From the way it looks I was having a great time. Even though in this picture I am trying to decide if I was laughing or crying. The other's looked like laughing so that is what I say I am doing here.
