One Less Mouth To Feed

It is quite today.  Everyone is peaceful.  Thinking of all the fun that was being had the other night.  Well, fun for all but one.  And he bravely gave his life for the others.

I had known for awhile that I had more than just me and the cats living in my house.  Yep, I had at least 1 mouse.  Had.

I heard all this commotion while sitting on the couch watching TV, and suddenly I see this small little mouse running for its life and Sophie and Maggie (my 2 cats if you didn't know) right on the mouse's little heels.

I let out an "OMG" and pulled my feet up on the couch.  Then I just watched as the trio ran around and under things.  I wasn't real sure what I should do.  I don't think I could have caught the little mouse and what would I do with it if I caught it?

Off they all run into another room.  After awhile I can hear the mouse squeaking.  I am hoping and praying it is just calling out for help and not being eatten alive by the cats.

Yes I wanted the mouse gone, but I didn't want it's exit to be a very painful and horrible one.

I go to bed and wake up in the morning with the cats hissing at each other.  They never do that.  Oh, I see.....in walks Maggie with "her" mouse.  She drops the poor dead little animal and lays on top of it.  Clearly it is her mouse and she ain't going to share her new play toy.

Looking at the mouse you can tell it's dead, no blood or bite marks.  The cats just "played" with it until it had a heart attack and died I guess.  Now they still don't want to eat it, just play with it.  Well I am sorry I can't have them playing with a dead mouse!

I still didn't know what to do with the poor thing.  I ended up just throwing it out in the back yard.  I felt bad about it, but hey maybe some other critter can make a meal off it.

I should not feel guilty or bad for the mouse.  But I do.  I think I must have at least one more because the cats are still sittingand staring at the cabinets...........and even though I feel guilty I will let them "take care of" that one too.

I know all to well about cats and mice.  There for a while, Merlin was catching them every couple of days and just playing with them.

My dad once had a log basket and he brought it in, only for a mouse to jump out. Cat gave chase and caught it. Each time ever after the log basket came in, the cat was ready for a mouse.
