First Tuesday of the New Year

The new year has begun.  whoop-dee doo!  Ok I shouldn't be that way.  It's a habit.  Why do we all think that just because you rip off a page in the calendar and a new year starts that it means that something great will happen?  Why not get excited over say the last day of June? Why not think that that means something new and exciting is going to happen within the next 12 months?  Why do we make such a big deal over a new year starting?  New beginnings?  Why can't another day on the calendar be a new beginning?  Am I thinking too hard?

Tammy has a link to great annoyingly good game.  Try this one out (that means you Angela!): Jailbreak.  I barely made it past the first level.  Have fun!

Another great entry over here:  My Warped Mind Is At It Again!  Actually you should just add her to your journal reading.  I love her stuff.

Forgot to tell everyone.  If you try the google reader and you need a google email but it won't give you one let me know I have tons of "google email invites" that I can send you.

They are burying former President Ford today.  He was the only president that wasn't elected.  He is also the only President (sitting President anyway) that I got to "see/meet".  When I was something like 14 (?) his plane (or was it a helicopter?) stopped breifly here in town and he was outside the mall.  Me being a someone young teenager just pushed myself through the crowd (people love it when kids do things like that  LOL) and got close up front (but I'm short and couldn't see around the adults really good) and I stuck my hand out between people and, and........and it got shook!  It had to have been the President right?  Even though I couldn't see HIM, no one else was shaking hands that appeared from seemly nowhere, right?

From what I understand today is a day off for federal workers in honor of Ford being dead/buried.  I'm sorry the man died (but he did have a long life, he was like 93?) and I guess it is the patiotic thing to do (to close down government for the day), but a part of me just doesn't get it.

Without going into politics (which I am trying harder not to do but I think I seem to be doing more here lately huh?), having read someone's entry today then hearing that no mail would be delivered today.....sorry I'm talking in circles.  I tend to do that.  Anyway go here and read this:  New Year  Go ahead.  I'll wait. ...........waiting..........back?  Ok, I love her idea.  I think we should honor our fallen heros somehow.  I know there probably a million sites (and if you know of a good one let me know) but here is one I have: Dead People - People who died in 2006  Look on the left hand side and you will see military listed (by year).  Find a name that "speaks to you" (don't know what I mean? you don't have to know, if you start reading names one will just jump out at you -- trust me on this -- take that name and do a search (google is good) and see if you can find anything out about that person.  Then if the spirit moves ya make an entry on him/her.  And don't forget to tag your entry so if anyone ever looks up his/her name they will come across your entry.

Sorry for the long entry.

I also apologise for this tag.  But today it kind of "spoke" to me.  LOL

yeah i think postal workers get far too many days off anyway.I dont know that its the 1st we are excited over as much as the fact that all the hustle and bustle is over with. I know for me that is it that tings are settleing back to normal.

Gerald Ford was a sweet, man and a fine President.....loved by many. He was also a very Godly man. I liked him. Nice you got to shake his hand. I've liked all of our former presidents for one reason or another.

I'm with you about New Year's. Can't get how changing a year number makes a difference.

I will try the game. : )

I too thought it was weird that banks were closed and there was no mail.  They didn't do that after the death of my mom or James Brown or Peter Boyle -- and they were much better Americans than that old historical footnote.  Sheesh.

I love your peace on earth graphic! And, I personally celebrate the start of what feels like MY new year, in the fall, when school restarts (for my daughter), and my birthday is in the fall so the start of my new year.   This is a flip of the calendar, a hope for bright new days but, feels as if in the middle of a year.   Celebrate what works, or doesn't for you! :)   As to Federal employees having off on Tuesday as a Day of Mourning for the late President Ford (who some argue was simply the first President not technically elected), I think it's a respectful thing as he was in essence the Commander in Chief, the head boss, of all those who work for the Federal Government.  Plus those in the DC area would have a heck of a time commuting in and out that day.   Wishing you peace this new day and new month and new year yourself -- Robin
