The weather here has finally decided to feel like winter time. Chilly, well, down right cold. No rain, sleet, or snow. I bet in February we get something to make life miserable for a little while.
This past week mom found out she is a diabetic. Does that run in families? My grandmother had it, my aunt, and now my mom. Of course they were all in their late 60's or early 70's before they found out. Got me kind of worried now. That would be one of the last things I would need to get.
You can't get away from family when in comes to genes. I got high blood pressure and high colestrol from my dad's side.
Yesterday I went to visit my Aunt Betty. She lives about an hour from here. One of her "adopted" daughters was visiting with her family. T is part of the family but I don't think it was ever made legal. See, Aunt Betty and her husband were friends with T's parents. When T and her sister were little they came home from school to find that their mom had killed herself. Bad enough but 6 months later on Christmas day they came home from church to find that their dad had done the same thing. Aunt Betty and her husband took the kids in and raised them. I don't think they ever really adopted them. More like a foster home maybe. But they were -- and still are -- treated like part of the family.
My cat Dallas is losing weight and won't go to her food I have to bring it to her. I know she is old -- 19 -- but I wonder what is causing her not to go into the kitchen to eat. Weird.
Sadie loves the new cat climbing tree. She has climbed all the way to the top -- which goes to the ceiling --. I love watching her play.
Guess that's it for now.

Diabetes does run in families hon. I have it but have been able to control through diet and exercise. Every once in awhile I gain weight and sometimes have to take meds...when weight goes down...I go off pills. But that's not always the case. If you aren't diabetic now you might avoid it if you control your weight and exercise. If your not sure..get checked. You can get diabetes when you're a child too. You don't have to be older. Many children are diabetic. Hope you don't have it. If you do, take care of it right away. It is nothing to mess with. Hugs. *Barb*
Yes diabetes runs in families. I am a Type II diabetic but I take no meds and my sugar levels are staying at the level of a non-diabetic. I have to say that it's not because of the ADA diet. I use Dr. Bernstein's plan. It's intense but it really, really works.. His book is called Diabetes Solution--The Complete Guide To Achieving Noraml Blood Sugars. It is the best!
Since you have such a strong history of diabetes I would make some changes and avoid all the nasty complications that can come with the disease.
Hugs my friend and if you need some information just drop me an email and I'll be glad to send you what I know.
Yeah Diabeties is heredity. NO You dont need that. OH man we are in for a beating htis winter. It may have held it off big time and may even wait for a big one march like it has a few eyars in a row. Poor dallas. My cats and dogs have done that. THey eat if hand feed but would not eat with out. TIs so very ahrd to watch this happen. {{{{{{{KATHY}}}}}}}} Lori
Those poor children. How sad. I hope they are ok now.
And yes diabetes does run in family's. I am not sure whether it is gene factors or diet habits. I think it may be both. Tell your mom to follow the diabetic diet strictly. One of my elderly friends didn't and lost her legs in the last several years of her life.
And of course watch for decubitis sores, they can be life threatening.
Oh, Oh, and tell her to be sure she gets a themometer for her bath. Diabetics have trouble feeling temperatures acurately and can burn themselves. And lastly, God I sound so preachy!
Only a peditrist should clip her toenails.
{{{{{Kathy}}}}},
Poor {{{{{Dallas}}}}} I hope she wants to eat on her own again soon. As so many others have said, yes diabetes runs in families. My mother and one of her sisters had it, two of my sisters have it. When I was pregnant with Ikenna my OB/GYN told me I was a good candidate for gestational diabetes. Thank the good Lord I did not get it nor do I have it. I'm still a good candidate for it since I'm so bad about watching my weight/diet and exercising.
Please help your mom stick with the plan her medical professionals give her. One of my co-workers was recently diagnosed with it. She has been following her doctor's advice very well, and although it didn't look like she needed to loose weight, she has lost quite a bit on her diabetic diet.
Your Aunt Betty and her husband were angels to take in those poor girls when thei parents took their lives.
