Well we didn't get the snow they
were calling for. But we are getting
some ice today. Great. I wanted
snow but we have to have ice.
Early this morning I took Dallas to
the vet. I have really been worried
about her. Now I feel so bad about
waiting so long to take her.
Dr Mac said that not only is Dallas'
potassium too low, she also has high
blood pressure. Thanks to the high
blood pressure (well, most likely
because of it) Dallas' retina's have
detached and for the most part she
is blind. Also found out (which I
thought but didn't know for sure)
Dallas is also deaf.
So I said to the vet, let me get this
right, Dallas has high blood pressure,
is deaf and blind. And Dr Mac says
yeah.
I got some meds for Dallas but the
more I think about it the more I
wonder if I am doing the right thing.
I asked Dr Mac what kind of life can
she have being BOTH blind and deaf.
She said lets put her on some meds
to get her feeling better and then
see what her quality of life is like. I
agreed with her at the time, but now
I am not so sure. Maybe I should go
ahead and let her go. Dallas is 19 and
that is pretty old.
Oh, forgot. Dallas is down to 5.3
pounds. That is really SKINNY. All
she has been doing is sleeping. She
don't go into the kitchen so she
doesn't eat unless I bring her food
to her and put it under her nose.
I guess I really shouldn't wait until
she feels better. Maybe I should
let her go now.

Ah, Kathy. I feel sad reading this. We adored our little poodle but he got so ill we just couldn't justfiy not letting him go. We cried for weeks. I still do once in awhile. So many people told us," He's just a dog. "He was a dog but family too. I still find it hard when it gets stormy. "Buddy" would run as fast as he could to me, wanting me to hold him till the thunder stopped. Big hugs. *Barb*
Well I would try the meds. It may give her a few more years of quality life. I have had many deaf and blind animals live good happy lives. If the BP meds work then why not let see if God takes his course and takes her peacefully in her sleep in his time. Of course only you know but you are there. But that is waht I would do. If the vet says give the meds a chance then that may make her well enough for you to have a few more good memories and it not be on your shoulders putting her down. Becuase even if it is ther RIGHT TIME. Its still hard I KNOW> NO matter waht that is hard. So maybe this will give a chance. Hugs and prayers Lori.
This is a very hard one. We have been faced with it several times. However, give it a few days, try the meds and then re-think. I know you will make the right choice. Is Dallas a dog or a cat? Our cat is 24 and totally deaf and weighs less than you mentioned but she is still going strong. I feel for you, I really do xxxxxxx
Oh sweetie I have been in that situation before and it is so very hard. Just love Dallas and your heart will lead you down the path that is right for Dallas.

I know how much you love your kitties... I guess I would ask, is Dallas in pain? It seems like that's the time when maybe it's best to let go, but if she just sleeps a lot, maybe it's really not her time to go yet? hugs to you, Albert
Honey look at Dallas and she will let you know. Dallas may make the desicion for you and go peacefully on her own.
