October 28 2003

This is a tough entry for me to make.  I wanted to make it on the 28th but have decided to do it now.

If you were reading my journal last year around this time you will remember that I had a beloved cat named Ashley.  She was a chubby, gray, loveable, 17 year old cat. (I had gotten her from my Uncle Joe when she was just a kitten) She had been sick and after tests were run I found out it was her kidneys.  After making a heart wrentching decision Dr B put her to sleep.  I still wonder though if I should have waited just a little bit longer.  Maybe that is why I am sitting here crying right now.

I really hated the little white box that came back with her remains after I had her creamated.  I promised Ashley (and myself) she would have something better as soon as I could afford it.  Coming up on a year and I still really didn't have the money but I went and took the money out of my savings and got the most beautiful urn-type thing I could find here in town.  I haven't had a chance to take a picture of it but if you will click here I found a site on the web with the exact same thing.  I got the right of the cat sitting up.

Here are some pictures of Ashley that I already had on my computer:

At Christmas:

She loved my ice tea:

What a beautiful Kitty. I am so sorry to hear that you had to put her to sleep. I love gray cats. They are my favorite.

Oh Kathy-I'm so sorry. It was a hard decision to make, but I do think it was the right one. I would do anything that would prevent my Gerbies from having one second of pain. I know you didn't make the decision lightly either. Don't second guess yourself, bebe'. It'll make you crazy. Cry all you need to, and know that we love you, and are here. You aren't by yourself. MAtter of fact, I had forgotten to tell you, but I was walking the dogs Friday afternoon, and a woman came around the corner a little too quickly, causing us to have to jump up into a yard. That was an accident, and she wasn't really going that fast, but she WAS talking animatedly to a tabby cat that was stretched out on the passenger dashboard. And I thought of you.  :)

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, MY BELOVED SIAMESE BRODY DIED A YEAR AGO ON THE 22ND OF THIS MONTH.  I DID NOT PUT HIM DOWN AND I WONDER IF I SHOULD HAVE, HE SUFFERED BUT HE ALSO SEEMED TO WANT TO GO ON.  THIRTEEN YEARS AGO, I PUT MY LITTLE FEMALE SIAMESE DOWN, SHE HAD KIDNEY DISEASE, HAD BECOME COMPLETELY  UREMIC, I THINK I MADE THE BETTER CHOICE WITH HER.  IT IS A HARD CALL TO MAKE AND YOU NEVER REALLY KNOW IF YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION, IT IS HEART WRENCHING AND HEART BREAKING, SO SAD BUT AT LEAST WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF THEIR COMPANY FOR AWHILE.............................STORMIE

Awww..what a beautiful cat!  It is so hard losing a family pet...people who don't own animals can't relate to the grief it causes.  Last year, I had to put down my parents' dog that I had given them when she was a puppy.  She was very old and in alot of pain.  My mom just couldn't bring herself to do it, so I did.  I cried for a week.  It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about that dog, especially on that particular day!

Be blessed......Trina

She is beautiful!!!!  You loved her with all your heart and gave her a wonderful life.  I understand the pain of losing a pet and I have never gotten over it.  I had a wonderful little dog and whenever I looks at his pictures it just tears my heart apart.  {{{{{Hugs}}}}}

i know this was a difficult thing for you to write about but i'm glad you shared .. from Ashley's pictures its easy to see why you loved her so dearly .. she obviously has a lot of personality :)
i only hope that someday you realize that you made a decision that allowed her to retain her dignity and because of your decision her final days were not filled with discomfort or pain
please dry your tears .. she knows you love her and the decision you made was because you loved her so much
sending you hugs

Kathy, what a beautiful cat she was... I'm with everyone else, do not second-guess your decision on the timing, I'm certain you made the most loving choice. You can tell just by these photos how much you loved her.  She's up there in Kitty Heaven, so happy that you're remembering her this week...  hugs, Albert

What a beautiful cat she was ! I know how you were feeling because a fortnight ago we lost our dear labrador, Hannah .  We had to have her put to sleep because she had terminal cancer and we wanted to say goodbye while she wasn`t in too much pain. She was 13yrs old and we were not sure if we should have let her have longer. But in our heart of hearts we know it was for the best. We have just had her ashes returned and I am keeping them in the wardrobe beside my bed just to have her nearby until the memorial we have ordered arrives. It is such an awful time after the loss of our much loved furry friends We will miss them always.

I know how you feel. I lost 2 of my cats this year. And it is sad. The Urn is lovely. I am glad you got it. Mine have graves in my back yard with flowers planted on them.
