Books, Books, Books, and even more books

First let me update on Sadie.  Took her back to see Dr B (per his request) and she is doing ok.  Since Tuesday she has gained two tenths of a pound.  And when you are as skinny as she is every little tenth counts! He says that her breathing is better and her lungs sound tons better. I am to keep her on her meds and take her back next week for followup.

Now on to books.  Got up early and went to the HUGE book sale.  It started at 9am.  I got there 10 minutes after and had trouble finding a parking space.  Once inside you could hardly move for the people.

I could go on forever about the books I got, but I won't as I know most of you really don't care.  But I know everyone is about saving money so I will tell you about the money I saved.  Or rather the money I spent.

As most readers will tell you the cost of the average paperback book can be around $7.99 or higher.  And the cost of hardbacks is $20 and up.  Mostly on the up side.

Today on my first round (had to stop, pay, and take a load out to the car they were just too heavy to keep toting around), I got 23 paperbacks for $14.50!!!!  That's what? About 63 cents per book?

The 2nd, and last, round I got 13 paperbacks and 4 hardback books for $15.00.  That is 88 cent a book?

So for a total of $29.50 I got 40 books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I just have to find a place to put them!

And for those of you that think that I over bought, you should have seen the boxes, crates, bags, and everything else people had crammed with books.  I think I came out with next to nothing compared to most people there!

Books

A local charity here in town has a HUGH book sale once a year.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday is when this years is.  Cann't hardly wait!  They have paperback and hardback books from 25 cent up to 5 dollars with the average being $1.  People show up with bags or even boxes to put all their loot into.

I have never been on the first day of the sale, let alone in the first few hours of the sale, but I am trying for it tomorrow.  I am on such a high I am getting all kinds of anexity about it.

If you don't do a lot of reading you probably don't understand the feeling a person can get for one of these sells.  It is almost heaven I tell ya.

And on top of that a branch of the public library is having a book sale starting tomorrow.

Can you guess what I will be spending all of next month's spending money on?  Or where I will be spending it at?

Sadie is doing better

I guess you all know how worried I was last night about Sadie.  She was in a chair in the livingroom when I went to bed so I slept on the couch to be close to her.  I woke up during the night didn't see her.  I looked all over the house and couldn't find her.  I was so freaking out.

I finally found her.  I have this cat "tree" like piece of furniture for her climbing pleasure and at the bottom has a little "house" like thing that I call the "dog house".  She was curled up in there.  She had never done that before so I reached in to make sure she was ok.  She was.  I woke her up.  Oops, didn't mean to do that.

This morning when I got up she was still in the dog house.  I reached in and petted her.  She came out and laid in a sunbeam for a few hours then started acting better.

I guess maybe her being sick and then with the shot Dr B gave her on top of it really did her in yesterday.  She still isn't her old self but she does seem a LOT better.

I was able to get her pill into her today which was no small task.  If you have ever given a pill to a cat you know what I am talking about.

I plan on taking her back to see Dr B tomorrow afternoon so he can see her improvement and decide if we should do anything else to help her.

Sadie is pretty sick.

Just got back from taking Sadie to see Dr B.  My poor little kitty doesn't feel good.  But I think it may be worse that I thought.  Even Dr B said he was worried about her and wants me to bring her back in in a couple of days.

What's wrong?  Don't know.  She isn't gaining weight.  Her tempature was low.  Should be around 100 but it was 96.4.  She is breathing kind of hard.  Dr B gave her a shot and a different kind of med for infection.

While he was examing her he siad he felt something different in her chest than he had felt before.  Something about the way she was breathing.

Sadie is usually pretty active but she just lays in one spot.  She did that in the car (she usually gets in the back window) at the vet (she usually plays some with Dr B) and when we got home I sat her in the floor and she just stood there for awhile before she went ino the bathroom and she is laying on the rug in there.  That is totally weird!

With Dr B worried it makes me more worried.  It hasn't been all that long since I lost my beloved Ashley.  I don't know what I will do if something happens to Sadie.

I know, I am a worrier.  You give me a subject and I can find something to worry about and will continue to worry about it until I get something else to worry about.

Say a little prayer for my little Sadie.  I want her to get better and have a long HEALTHY life llike Dallas (and Ashley had) has.

Cell phone troubles

I would have never gotten myself a cell phone.  But my parents got one and in the deal mom told dad he would get a 2nd one to give to me.  Sometimes being the youngest, still single, live right around the corner, does have it's perks.  LOL

The other night I couldn't get the phone to charge.  I called my dad and the "man gene" said I had to have done something wrong, bring it over and he will fix it.  Well it wasn't anything I was or wasn't doing!  So there "Mr. Man Gene"! lol

Dad took it to get it looked out.  Something about the "mother board" or whatever had problems and Mr. Cell Phone Man fixed it.  He fixed it alright.  Didn't know how well he had fixed it until the next day when I was visiting Aunt Betty.

Mom tried to call me and kept getting my mailbox.  So she dialed their cell phone number --thinking she had gotten the numbers confused (which Dad had left at home) and my phone rang.  Wasn't until I played around with both phones later that day that I finally figured out what was happening.  When Mr Cell Phone Man fixed my phone he somehow turned off my phone number and put my dad's number in it's place!  Dad's phone wasn't ringing but mine would when you dialed HIS number.  If you dialed my number you went directly into my voice mailbox!

Mr Cell Phone Man got it straightened out.  It was his fault and he couldn't say it wasn't.

My dad's "Mr Man Gene" is still intact even though I did nothing to harm my phone.

Floors

Went to visit my Aunt Betty friday and took her the rocking chair I had gotten her.  My dad thought she wouldn't like it so he was surprised when she did.  I love my Aunt Betty she is such a cool lady.  She lives about an hour away so I don't see her as often as I would like.

I had put money back to by the floor with and instead of not putting enough back I had some left over!  WOO HOO So I decided to get some rugs to spruce the floors up with -- and maybe save some wear and tear on them at the same time. So while visiting aunty I shopped at a store they have that we don't.  I found a really nice rug for the hall but the ones that I wanted for my livingroom was just too much money.  I was really bummed.

After we got back to town I discovered something wrong with my cell phone so we went to get that fixed.  And because the place was in the same block as Lowe's I thought well why not look at thier rugs.  My dad rolled his eyes as he was thinking they would be way to expensive.  Well we were both surprised.  I have the most beautiful rug that was in my price range!!!!!  The only bad thing is that they have to order it so it will be a couple of weeks before I get it.  Can hardly wait.

I even picked up a rug for the bathroom while at Lowe's!  I am so happy.  My livingroom and hallway have been painted, new floors put down, and now some really nice rugs!!  Can it get better?

I still have carpet in my 2 bedrooms but I want to take it up later this summer.  They won't get new flooring though.  Flooring ain't cheap -- in case you didn't know.  But the carpets are so nasty.  My cats have thrown up on them and I can't get the stains out, so up they must come.

I have seen where people painted their floors but I am not so sure about that yet.  I will have to see what they look like and then decide on what to do.  Whatever I do it can't cost too much.

Those loose ends.

I have had several questions in my comments that I haven't gotten around to answering, stuff is happening all over J-land, so this entry is to tie up all those loose ends.  Or at least most of them.

Easter Monday.  I can't find anyone who knows why North Carolina used to use it for a holiday before slowly going to Good Friday.  What most people seem to think is that in a time long ago people wanted a three day weekend.  Monday seemed to be a good day to add to the weekend.  Why?  A lot of people travel for Easter.  They go home, they visit graves, they go back to a church they went to way back, and some even go to the Holy Land.  So why not give them Monday to get to town or at the very least to rest up after the "big" day before they have to go back to work.  Sounds plausable to me.  Don't know if that is the real reason but everyone I asked seemed to think it the most likely reason NC used it for a holiday for so long.

The floors I had put down is that wood lamanate (?) stuff with the tongue and grove that you pop together some how.  It looks like a real wood floor.  I HAVE a real wood floor but it was a real mess and I would have had to pay someone big $$$$$ to fix it up to look as nice as I wanted it to.  The new flooring was cheaper when you consider I didn't have to pay someone to lay it.

People out there in J-land seem to be falling in love all over the place!  I won't mention names but I am sure you can find them.  One couple is in that "sappy love" "mushy" type phase.  Hey NOTHING wrong with that!  But those of us that aren't part of a couple get a little nauseated around those that are so in love.  I hope everything works out for them.

The Top 5 editors pulled one of their picks? Whoa.  I really don't know what to say.  And others have probably said it better that I could if I knew what I wanted to say.

I do believe someone out in J-land is upset with me.  I don't know why.  I could be wrong but I feel the cold shoulder from someone.  If you are mad/upset or whatever with me I wish you would tell me.

Lastly, I am a member of several MSN groups and someone with the MSN screen name girlwithgreeneyes added Ashley's name and dates to this photo of her. If you have been reading my journal you know that Ashley died this past October at the age of 17.

I made it through the rain

I made it through what was a really long day yesterday.  It took them almost 9 hours but ladies and gents I have a new floor!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy and the floor looks so good!! Quite frankly I am amazed that it came out looking as good as it does.  Tom is the only one who had laid this type of floor before (and it was a little different from the one he did) and there were a few little problems here and there.  My hallway floor wasn't level.  Who knew?  Because of that there is a place where the boards have a small crack between them.  I don't care really, I was going to put a throw rug in there anyway.

And you should have seen the hallway floor before they did anything.  When I bought the house it had one of those old furnances that has the heat vent in the middle of the floor in the hall.  I din't mind it, when you got cold you could just go stand on it and get warm.  But when I had central air put in (and they had to put vents in all the rooms) I went ahead and replaced the furnance also so we had to close up that hole that was left behind.  It wasn't UGLY, but it wasn't pretty either.  The type of thing that throw rugs were made for!!

There are a few little things that still must get done.  The molding at the bottom of the walls needs to be replaced and I need to get something to put where the flooring ends going into each of the other rooms.  But none of this is a huge deal and I should have it taken care of by the end of the week.

I am however still trying to move around 2 bookcases that we moved into the kitchen (to get them out of the way while laying the floor).  "They" (whoever they are) that these times of floor are hard to scratch.  I don't really by that so I am trying to figure out how to get the bookcases where I want them without messing anything up.  We moved them with the books still in them.  I think I will have to take out all the books and maybe sit the bookcases on a rug or something to get them where I want them.  But I also want the molding put down first so I don't have to move them yet again.

Early start for problems today?

My dad and two of his friends will be here in about an hour.

They are going to lay my new flooringing.

Only one of them has done it before.

I can already hear the languge that if  even unsaid will be flying around their thoughts today while they are trying to figure out what they are doing.

Have to keep my cats out of the way.  For Dallas that will be no problem.  With Sadie.......it should be fun.

See ya laters to tell you all about it.

It's going to be a great day.

Another journal for you to rush off too

I have just read a journal entry titled:

Why Women Are Crabby

Ladies you must go read this.  It is great.  Guys you can go read it as well then pass it along to your girlfriends/wives/mothers/sisters.  It is wonderful.

Kick's Birthday and Mrs D's death

First things first.  Everyone please hop over to Franklin's place (also known as Kick) and wish him a Happy 25th Birthday!!!!!!  Woo Hoo   The guy is getting OLD!!!!

Now on to my entry..

There is this lady at church that half the town must know.  She is  the widow of  a local vet and her son took over the business when he finished school.  The practice is right around the corner from me -- thought I do not take my kitties there.  Mrs D is 85 years old and still driving until this past week.  This past Saturday she had a heart attack and after she got to the hospital she had a massive stroke.  Everyone at church has been praying for God to do what was best for her.  I guess that He wanted her to be with him because she died at 3 am today.

I am not close to Mrs D.  In fact there were some things about her I really didn't like.  But for some reason I am really sadden by her death.  Maybe because it seemed so sudden.  Maybe because it gives you a wake up call about death.

At 85 Mrs D was still living alone and driving.  I would see her from time to time at this little diner where I like to eat breakfast.  Then, wham, heart attack (which all by itself she may have been able to overcome) and a massive stroke, and 2 days later she is dead.  Two years ago another lady at church who was not a lot older than me dropped dead of a heart attack.

You always hear people saying how fragile life is.  How short life is.  But sometimes you just don't really think that tomorrow could be the day you (or a loved one) just drop dead.

I had 2 uncles to die suddenly.  One was in his yard talking to a neighbor and he just fell to the ground dead.  Another uncle died in a grocery store.  One day years ago at work a man about 15 year or so older than I was at the time just fell to the floor there at work dead.  All of these died without any warning of any kind.

I am not going to give a sermon here about God, about making a will or whatever else you may think I could address.  I just wanted to share that whether I liked her or not, whether I was close to her or not, for some reason Mrs D's death has really sadden me and I am not totally sure why.

ps this is the same old entry if you get more than one alert.  the size of the font looked great when I was keying it, looked fine the first time I looked over it.  but when I came back to read a comment it looked so small so I am trying to fix that now.

Dallas

This is a picture of my cat Dallas.  It is an old picture but she still looks the same.  Dallas is around 18 years old or so.  She has always been a really healthy cat.  In fact she had never had to go to the vet for sickness.  Until now.

Dallas has thrown up for a couple of days and there has been no poop that looks like hers in the litter box.  With 2 cats eating each others food it is hard to keep up with who is eating but I don't think she had done much of that for a couple days either.

Called and found out that yep Dr B was working today so Dallas and I got there at 8 am opening time.  Dallas was not a very happy kitty at all!!!  Dr B did manage to listen to her heart and sort of feel of her tummy.  But she kept growling and hissing.  He didn't seem to be bothered by that.  But then she tried to bite.  Bite him, bite me.  It was horrible.  He was going to try to muzzle her but then thought better of it.  Dr B wanted to draw some blood and he would have to get to her neck to do that.

Sedation was going to be the way to go.  Getting the shot into her hiney was not going to be an easy task.  With a towel thrown over her upper body and his one hand holding her down Dr B did get the shot in.

Blood work turned out really good.  She does have a little something wrong with her kidneys but that is to be expected at her age.  The problem looks like some inflamation around her pancreases.  No real problem there.  The real problem is going to be giving her meds, twice a day for 5 days for the inflamation!!!  Thanks to all the shots Dallas got while she was snoozing I don't have to worry about the meds until tomorrow.

I had to keep Dallas in her carrier until she came around and was more steady on her feet. Sadie couldn't understand this and wanted to rub up against the little gate thingy.  Dallas really didn't like that.

Dallas is out of her carrier now and has eatten some.  She still doesn't want Sadie or me messing with her.  I hope she forgives me for all that she had to go through today.

The List John asked for.

John over at By The Way has given us a Friday challenge to come up with 25 things about ourselves.  I have already done a 100 list, but I think I can come up with another 25.  If you are willing to read it here is my new list:

1  I use children's toothpaste.  I like the taste better.  I still get good check ups at the dentist.

2  Something very special happened to me in Apt 23B.

3  I bought a brand new Mustang in 1988.  4 years later I totaled it.

4  Love the poet Edgar A Guest.

5  When I was a little girl I had a crush on singer Buck Owens.

6  I wear a Marvin the Martian watch.

7  I was several years past the legal drinking age before I had my first drink.

8  I have never been fired from a job.

9  I had an ex-boyfriend scared of me.  I don't really remember what I said to him but he thought I might try to hurt him.  Of course I had no intentions of hurting anyone but I was really mad at the time and I don't think he had ever seen me like that before.

10 I have a red belt in Karate.

11  I have the hots for John over at By The Way.....JUST KIDDING   I was trying to see if you are paying attention.

12 I have gotten 1 speeding ticket and a ticket for running a stop sign (I looked I just didn't stop).

13 I told a boss off once.  He didn't fire me, didn't even write me up.  Guess I was right and he was wrong.

14 I have all but given up on finding Mr Right, or even Mr Will Do.

15 I remember being touched inappropriately by my older brother when I was little.

16 I sleep on the couch instead of my bed.

17  My first boyfriend came looking for me last year.  We talked some on the phone.  When he saw that I had gained some weight he quit calling.

18 I know 1 crochet stitch.  I used it to make an afghan once.

20 I want to be buried in a t-shirt, jeans and barefoot.

21 When I was little I beat up on the boy next door once.

22  I cut my own bangs one year the day before school pictures were taken.

23 I used to help a friend sell Avon.

24 Laughed until I cried when I read "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham.

25 Have a cat sitting on my shoulder right now that I need to get up and give her medicine to.....

19  Just realized I have no number 19 on my list.

What I don't like about Alerts

First I am not really complaining.  I am just sort of thinking out loud.  Or on paper.  Well this ain't paper is it?  You know what I mean.

I love getting journal alerts.  However.......When you get a alert you can pretty much read the journal entry right there, no need to hop over to the journal.  But by not going to the journal you miss out on any pictures or graphics that might be there.  And unless you feel strongly enough about what the entry is about will you hop over to leave a comment?

Also if you create an entry and hit save THEN decide to rewrite, delete or reword, well the entry is out there for the world in its "raw" form.  I never really thought about this until I got a alert and the subject line for the journal had a 4 letter word in it.  I was a shocked.  But I hopped over to the journal and that person had alread deleted that word and reworked the subject line.  Now I know he/she was just having a bad day but it is so much easier now to put something out there then want to change it but at least in the alert or email there it is.  Rats.

Thurday has been good

Where to start with my day?  Lets start with an email I just received.  I have been reading a private journal.  I just got kicked off the "readership list".  Well it said that the journal had gone private but it was already private.  NO I am not upset.  Just a tad shocked.  It is the first time this has happened to me, not being able to read someone's journal.  But that is ok.

Today has been really good.  It finally quit raining the sun is out!!  This really effects my moods so I am really happy about this.

I went out for breakfast and was easedropping in on the conversation at another table.  I know I shouldn't do that.  I wish now that I hadn't, I was not pleased at what I was hearing.  I wanted to go over and say something but I didn't.  This man and woman was talking about creation.  Guess he believed in the "big bang" theory.  If that wasn't enough to get me all crazy, he then said "the problem with Christians is that they take the book of Genesis literally".  My blood is boiling just thinking about that statement! First, the man is crazy, but if you don't take the Bible literally then what is the point?  If God said he created man but what happened is that he really just created a little thing that evolved into a man why would I want to believe ANY thing in the Bible?

After breakfast my dad and I (and his pick-up) went and bought the flooring I am going to put down next week. (Ok so I am not putting it down, my dad and 2 of his friends are.)  I am so happy!  I got the cherry (light) finish. Love it.  Tuesday is when they are going to put it down. Woo Hoo

Life is good at times

It has been raining all day.  Rained yesterday.  And the day before.

I went to the store and when I got home I found -- and I still can't believe it -- Dallas and Sadie laying in the same chair side by side.  I about fainted!  I have never seen Dallas this close to Sadie without a fight going on!

Way back when I was in school I took some sewing classes and even made some things -- pants, dresses, even a bathing suit.  But is has been forever since I made much of anything.  I still own a sewing machine and after my trip to the cloth store I thought I should break it back out.

I am starting SLOWLY and on something to is supposed to be easy.  How easy you may ask?  Well, you know those books that the title says "....for Dummies"?  Did you know you can get sewing patterns that say the same thing?  Really, I kid you not.  I went and bought a "Pattern for Dummies" on making a slip cover for my living room chair.  I don't have the money for the material right now, but hopefully the pattern will help me figure out how to measure the chair and come up with how much material I will need to buy.

More GREAT news.  I took a loan out 3 years ago to pay to have central air put in and replace my furnace.  So that I wouldn't have to put my house up to secure the loan my parents put up one of there CD's.  My loan was due to be paid off this summer and I knew my dad wanted to free up that CD.  We were out so we stopped at the back to see exactly how much I still owe (about 3 months of payments), and I got the shock of my life!  My dad went ahead and paid off the loan!! Woo Hoo  I had been thinking of taking the money out of my savings account to pay it off, but this will work fine with me!

Easter Monday and I could use some help.

I could be wrong, and it has been known to happen from time to time, but I think North Carolina is the only state left that still "celebrates" the Monday after Easter.  It is dying out and giving way to "good friday" but a few businesses still close on Monday instead of Friday.

I am sittting and typing this entry with Sadie sitting on my shoulder.  She is 6 or 7 months old and still small enought to sit on my shoulder.  I guess she will grown up and still be little.

I tasted Sadie's med yesterday.  Talk about some NASTY tasting stuff.  I doubt that I could stand to take it!  My poor baby.  And if keeping it in the fridge is supposed to help the taste......I would not want to taste it warm.  That stuff would kill you.

I uploade a graphic for this entry and now I can't find it.  I did the "add pictures from hometown" and it ain't there.

                          Need some technical help here

I am looking for some technical help, and if any one can help me I will open my front door and shout your name for all my neighbors to hear!!!

It has to do with e-mail.  I know how to save your signature so that it just pops up when you write an e-mail.  But I have started having a problem that I haven't had before.  I want to use a graphic with my signature (actually the graphic has my name in it) and I have done this before.  But now for whatever reason the sparkles won't sparkle, any animation is gone.  Also the little signature won't mail without that little screen saying "sending picture" and me having to wait for it to load or whatever.  It didn't do that before.

Anyone with ideas of what is going on and how I can fix it?

Sadie

I know everyone is tired of hearing about my little Sadie. But this is my journal and I want to talk about her from time to time so if you don't like it tough!

I took Sadie back to the vet today.  I could tell something was wrong.  She just wasn't acting like a kitten.

Anyways she has lost about 4 ounces which doesn't seem like alot in human terms but in kitten terms it is enough to be worried about.  Dr B ran some more blood tests ~~ Feline Leukemia (the second time for this) and Feline AIDS (not the same has people AIDS) ~~ both showed up negative.  That is so incredibley good I could shout.

So he is thinking she has a "chronic infection" and needs to be on different meds.

Great.  More meds.  Don't get me wrong I will give her meds until she is well or for the rest of her life if need be: however it is a real strugle getting meds into her.  The last was a liquid she got 2 times a day.  I had her wrapped up in a towel and she would still manage to get away from me.  This new med is a liquid also, but it doesn't taste good.  Or so I have been told.  Dr B said that he has tasted it and didn't like it.  If I keep it refridgerated it MAY make it taste a little better.  Can't wait to give it to her for the first time tomorrow.

Dr B is such a great vet.  He also has taken a liking to my little sweetie.  Yep he picks her up loves her tells her how beautiful she is. AND the BEST part -- he keeps giving me a break on his bill.

Today he did 2 different blood test, trimmed her nails, gave her a shot and sent some meds home with me. Oh, and there should be an office visit charge in there also.  He ONLY charged me for the shot and the meds.  Yes I walked out paying only $18.  Can you believe it?  The other vets there ALWAYS charge for every little thing they do PLUS the office visit charge.

Wow, I could have had a V-8

So that is a weird title for a journal entry, but that is the smack in the head that I am feel like giving myself.  I have not been getting some journal alerts for some of the journals I was supposed to be getting alerts about.  And maybe you haven't either.  Well smack me silly I FINALLY figured it out.  No one is writting on the "beta" side anymore (me included) so I guess that is causing you to have to ask for alerts from the "normal" side.  Right?  That is the reason, right?   I have noticed some slippage in my readers since I went "normal".  I am keying this entry on the old beta one so if anyone is missing an alert you will come and do what you gotta do to fix it.  Which is to go up to the http:// thing delete the word "beta" hit enter and when my journal pops back up sign up for alerts again.  That is if you want to be alerted to my ramblings.

Breast Cancer Daily Click

I have added something new to my "about me" column.  It is a "daily click" to help fund free mammograms for those that need them.  This is FREE to you.  Just click once every day to help with this cause.  Please join me in supporting this very worthy cause.

Friday

Friday is here!

I noticed something today.  You know all those people that stand on the street corner with signs wanting money?  When did the signs STOP saying "will work for food" and just plain out ask for money?  And when did they start adding " God Bless you" and the ever popular "even if you can't give God bless you anyway"?

Also, I don't want to sound racist this is just something else I noticed.  How many blacks or hispanics do you see out on the corner with the little sign asking for money?  I have seen one black guy.  I have noticed that there are more women out there but for the most part the ones around here look pretty mentally ill.

This is "good Friday".  I ~~ as a Christian ~~ don't know what is supposed to be so "good" about it.  If you know would you please tell me?

How does everyone like this background?  I love it.

I love my dad but sometimes he can just be a horse's hiney.  I had him switch out some electrical plugs this past week and I was the one at the switch box asking if I had the right switch thrown to get the power to where he was at.  For whatever reason he couldn't tell when the VCR was off or not.  I ended up throwing all the switches until he finally goes "oh, I have been looking at the wrong thing."  I so wanted to strangle him.  That ain't the horse's hiney part.  Cut to the next day.  I was going to take a shower.  Turn on the water, no hot water.  I go and start looking at the switches, I had the power cut off to the hot water heater.  I told my dad this.  He says "there should have been a little spring on that one" Me: there was, him "well you should never have touched that one."  Now how the heck was I supposed to know that?  And if he couldn't tell if the power was off on the VCR who is he to roll his eyes at something like "well you should have known, how stupid can you be?" Horse's Hiney.

Wednesday

Today is going to be beautiful.  It is supposed to get up to about 75 here. Yes!  My plans are to sit outside and read.

And speaking of reading --  a fellow AOL J-lander has started a book club.  If you think you might be interested drop her a e-mail. Melissa's addy is:  Z7Snow Flake

Still working on the house.  Yesterday my dad and I painted the hallway.  Cept for the doors.  We got started late and dad (well me too) was pooped so we called it a day.  Advice to anyone painting over paneling.  DON'T  But if you insist, the primer will knock you on your hiney.  If you can get one of those hi-tech mask used in painting DO.  If you don't chances are you are going to get sick.  That primer is some nasty stuff.  Also, if your paneling looks ok, it may not after you paint it.  I see all kinds of imperfections now that I didn't notice before.  The primer and paint (2 coats of each) don't hide much other than the color of the paneling.

In hindsight I wish I had:
Rubbed my hands down the wall on every inch of paneling.  Any rough feeling patch, no matter how small or not-so-rough feeling I would take a little sand paper to it.

If you are pulling out nails -- and we all know better than this -- just because it is paneling doesn't mean you can skip filling in the holes before you paint.  I KNOW you should, and I wasn't thinking.  Now I have more work to do.  And when you put another nail in and take it out, it looks tons worse on painted paneling than on just dry wall.

Urrg

I just sat here and keyed in this semi-wonderful entry and it wouldn't save.  Not only would it not save it disappeared.  Now I am in a lousy mood and don't feel like keying the whole thing over again.  Oh well......That is what tv is for.  I am off to watch Century City.  See you guys tomorrow.

Kathy

I am famous! Well, sort of......

I got a totally unexpected email today.  Seems that someone who is someone read my last entry and liked my button addiction. Who knew?  I am on the AOL Hobby Talk page.  Click here to go there.  Under member musings it has the title of my last entry "it's monday again" click on it to go to my last entry (if you haven't read it already). WOO HOO!   If I had a background with buttons on it I would use it for this entry, but alas I don't.

Expect another entry from me soon.

Kathy

Ok, I can't get the link to work right.  Here is the code:

It is Monday.....again

This past Saturday I went on a little shopping trip.  Some of the ladies at church were going to a cloth store in another town.  I felt like I needed to get out and needed to socialize some so I signed up to go.

I didn't realise that they were going to a cloth store 2 hours away.  Why in the world would you drive 2 hours to buy some material?  We took the church van, got stuck in traffic going -- and coming back home.

I can sew a little and still have a sewing machine.  I wasn't going to buy fabric and I am glad.  I would have never been able to choose what to buy.  I have never seen such a huge selection of fabric.  How much?  Lets just say the store even had a drink and snack machine!

I do have an odd thing about buttons and I found some great ones to buy.  Ok, the button thing.  After my grandmother died I remembered she had a big jar of buttons.  I don't know what happened to that jar but I wanted it.  Couldn't have it since no one can find it so I have been working on my own little collection of buttons.  Well there are 3 collections really.  Don't laugh at me!  One collection is buttons that are of things (like rabbits, flowers, cats, etc...) that I was drawn to, the 2nd collection is some of the same type but I use them on the cards I make (I cut off the backs first), and the 3rd collection is just pretty buttons, pretty colors, etc that I keep in my "granny" (that is what I called my grandmother) jar.  That collection is just something that brings back memories and I like the way it looks just sitting there.

So I bought myself some buttons that will divide into all 3 collections.  We stopped for lunch on the way back.  B wanted to stop at this Italian place but it wasn't open.  V and I sighed a hugh sigh of relief.  We ened up at a steak house called Texas Roadhouse.  The food was good but expensive.

After we got back on the highway R decided to take a different route back because of the congestion on the way down.  Well that way wasn't any better.  Worse if you ask me.  So we are crawling along and I look out the back window.  I just know that guy isn't going to stop.  He stopped.  He stopped all right.  When his truck (pickup) hit the back of our van he stopped.  No one was hurt, not even our van.  His truck had a nice size dent though.

So, how was your weekend?

Gateway, private journals, etc..

To read this entry you should go to the "beta" side by clicking here.  If you are already at beta clicking here will do nothing.

I have a Gateway computer.  Several reasons why I bought it but one of the reason was a store they had close by.  I knew that if I had any problems I could it back to them without having to mail it off.  Well I read in todays newspaper that they are closing all their stores!  I am really bummed about that.  Also if I took in a empty ink cartridge they would give me $5 off a new one. Bummer again.

I noticed that FINALLY someone at AOL answered my question about what will happen to private journals after the beta test is over. To get it "straight from the horses mouth" you can click on the following that I have copied from the entry about it.

Private Journals After Beta

OneStrangeCat wrote in wondering what happens to private Journals after the beta.

Well its simple really, they stay private and you don't have to go to beta to access them. All it means for anyone with a private journal is that you need to update your url, removing the word beta.

I do not understand why you would have to remove the word beta from the url but there it is folks.  Private journals will stay private.  But it looks like you have to update your url somehow.

I am still not sure why AOL created that journal.  It takes them forever to read their mail (I know, I sent mail with a receipt attached to it.) and it takes even longer for anything to be said about your question.  Do you find that journal helpful?  Do you even bother to read it?

Why do people name their journals the names that they have?  I guess the same can go about your screen name but I am more interested in what may be as plain as the nose on your face.

I am still worried about my little Sadie.  She just doesn't feel good.  I can tell several ways but the biggest one is that she isn't playing like she used to.  She also HATES to take her meds.  She is as strong as an ox when you try to give it to her.  She fights back and tries to get away.  She may look frail but she isn't.

I want to appolgise for not visiting and commenting the way I should.  I just haven't been reading much of anyone lately.  Maybe I am going through a little burn out.  I just don't know.  Someone asked me to do something that I may have wanted to do but I said no because I just don't feel dependable right now.  Crap.
