What have I learned from my last entry?  First that maybe
.bmp files use more space than .jpg files.  That changing from
.bmp to .jpg is supposedly not harmful to the file.  Now will
I go and change all my files?  Gee, don't know.  I don't want
to take the chance of hurting something.  Maybe I will
experiment some.

Second thing I learned.  I went and bought some new CD's.
And yeah, I have that many graphics on my hard drive.  It
took 2 CD's to save everything.  Who would have thought?
I put all my Kathy tags on one CD and all the other graphics
on a 2nd CD.  (Gee, just hit me, I have backed up the word
files I have.  Rats.)

I have also learned that even though the CD's are rewrite-
able you can't just add to a folder already on the CD.  New
problem for me.  I thought I would put everything on CD
and delete what was on my hard drive.  But if I keep saving
tags and graphics then I will have them in different folders
and I will really confuse myself.

So, do I keep everything on hard drive (until I run out of
space) and just keep backing it up from time to time? Or
put everything on CD, delete what is on my hard drive and
then figure out how to merge the stuff later? (that is a
scary thought).  What do you guys do?

Finally had my drive into the mountains yesterday.  Well, sort
of.  I never made it into the mountains.  I got up to the
foothills though.  My mistake was stopping and doing some
shopping along the way, and then there was lunch at
Cracker Barrel.......But I had a great time.

The leaves aren't in full color right now anyway so I plan
on taking another trip when they hit peak (or near peak) color.

I highly recommed day trips.  It felt like a mini-vacation.
But I got there and back in one day so it didn't cost as much
as a real vacation.  But it was a great break.  Try it some-
time.

Forgot to tell you about this new little dance step I learned
Monday.

It was raining pretty hard so I made a mad dash to my car.
Half way to my car I look down.  Just in time NOT to step
in what a dog, a big dog, no -- a HUGE dog left behind in my
front yard.

I was happy that I missed it, but mad that it was there.  OK
I don't get mad when a dog gets lose and does that, but
it still irks me.

I did step into once.  I had a cast on one foot and was on
crutches.  I get in the house and keep smelling something.
I finally look at the foot wearing a shoe and there it was.

Don't forget to back up your files.

I have been trying to back up all my photos and graphics on a cd. I have done this before with no problem whatsoever. But not today. Nope not today.

First I get a message that the cd is too full. Ok, I erase the cd. Then when I try to save I get a message that there isn't enough room on the cd for all my photos and graphics. Well I find this hard to believe. But I guess it could be possible. So then I decide to start putting things on the cd one folder at a time.

Things were going good and then I got some weird message saying there was something wrong with the file and it couldn't write it to the cd. I skip over that folder go on to something else and come back to it later and it will copy just fine. I am not even half way through my graphics and I get that "cd is full" message again. I so find that hard to believe. So I have pulled out another cd and am slowly adding one folder at a time to the cd. At this rate I will be doing it forever and a day. LOL

I thought the cd's were supposed to hold a massive amount of data and graphics. The cd's I am using ae supposed to hold 700MB. Either that isn't as much as I thought it would be, my cd's are screwed up and I need new ones, or -- the horror of horrors -- I have THAT massive amount of graphics? Boy if I do I guess I should get some of them off the hard drive. What do you guys think? How many cd's full of graphics is too many? How many should I keep on the hard drive?

Rainy Monday

I hope that everyone is doing ok and is surviving     this latest hurricane. We have been getting "pre-hurricane" rain earlier that I expected.

The weekend was so nice that I thought today I would take a drive up to the  mountains.  The leaves are changing colors so I thought it would be great.   Woke up to it pouring down rain.  So much for that nice day in the mountains.

Mom talked to my brother yesterday.  He finally told her the real reasons why  my niece (his daughter) had her son taken away from her. (See
Baby Blues)  I won't go into all of it here, lets just say she was not taking very good care of the little tike.  She and her boyfriend were supposed to take some parenting classes this summer.  I don't know about her but I know he didn't finish the course.

One reason I bring this back up is that M is due to have her second baby any day now.  She doesn't think there will be any problems with social services
but I wonder.  She hasn't gotten her son back so what is to keep them from taking the new baby away?  I don't know how all that works as I have never known anyone that had a child taken away.  (or at least no one ever told me that they had a child taken away)

Thanks to a terrifice guy in an MSN group I had a picture of my little Sadie turned into a halloween siggy.  What do you think?
